How to Fix a Boring Outfit
Do you ever look in the mirror…or at a photo of yourself in a particular outfit…and think, “This looks boring…what does it need?”
I’m going to let you in on one of the biggest style secrets that can fix a boring outfit probably 50% of the time.
If an outfit looks boring, you probably haven’t applied the Golden Ratio.
Have you heard of it?
This is a BIG deal.
When you want to know how to create visually interesting looks, you need to apply the Golden Ratio…A.K.A. The Golden Mean.
It’s the key to composing your outfits in a way that’s aesthetically pleasing.
If you want to achieve beauty, balance and harmony in your outfits, you need this!
The Golden Ratio is about proportions.
Artists have discovered that when composing an image, equal division creates monotony.
So if your outfit is composed with a 1 to 1 proportion, it looks monotonous…AKA BORING.
1:1 proportions in outfits is a very common mistake.
Here’s an example using yours truly.
You might notice that something about each of these looks are a bit plain, unfinished…boring.
Change the proportions using the Golden Ratios of 1:2 or 2:3 and Voilà! They look much more interesting because the composition is pleasing.
AFTER
The proportions of 1:2 or 2:3 are the Golden Ratio’s for composing outfits so they don’t look boring.
Our Million Dollar Look Program members get many examples to learn about this, plus tools and exercises for practicing the Golden Ratio along with discovering their Body Proportions & balancing techniques. (and much more)
Even if you’re not in the program yet, I’m sharing this GOLDEN tip with you, so you can apply it to outfits and see the difference.
Ready to try it out?
Take a picture of yourself wearing an outfit that seems a bit boring—you can even take a full length mirror selfie—and then examine the proportions.
Check to see if it’s the 1 to 1 proportions that make an outfit dull.
Now try adjusting with a tuck, belt or layer to get a Golden Ratio of 1:2 or 2:3 then take another picture to compare the difference.
You might be surprised to see how this one technique can make a big difference.
Bye Bye boring, hello Chic!
Cheers,
Erin
